In one of his recent speeches, Pope Francis says he thinks that it is better to be an atheist than to be a Christian who lives double life. This comparison caused a lot of outrage in the religious communities, but that only proves Holy Father’s point.
An atheist neither has a belief in God nor he pretends to. He or she is following their heart.
A spiritual person, a Christian who does not follow his own preaching is a liar.
Belief comes from within you, not the people you are trying to impress. So, as a member of the church, if you are being deceitful, what kind of an example are you showing?
So, what does it mean ‘to believe’? Let’s look at three verses from the Bible that explain belief in different contexts.
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Unequivocally. Belief is either with you or not. And it is fine to have doubts. That’s how you can discover what God has in store for you.
I believe that God sent us Pope Francis to help heal our divided community. We have a leader. We are the soldiers of God and yet we still fight amongst us instead of following, as we should.
Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
We haven’t seen Him. We believe. Do You? This verse talks to us about believing without proof, and yet we keep asking for it. Every day.
So, belief is also about the lack of selfishness. Who am I or who are you to ask for proof of God? He has given us this world to care for and that’s what we should do first rather than be asking God to help us with the lottery.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
We must stop fighting. Everything I do, everything you do is our gifts to God. When you spread hate, deceit and self- righteousness, what kind of a gift are you giving?
Do you need to change? Must you sell your possessions and atone for your sins?
Look into your heart. You will know the answer.
Don ‘t feel bad. We are all sinners. Take example from our dear Pope Francis. See the light and be the light in your every deed.
You may have gorgeous possessions – boats, cars and private jets, even get 30 free spins if you want, but always remember the truth of God. Serve him by being true to yourself, your flaws and be kind to your neighbor.
